Reading skills development


1. READING REWARDS
Earn points by reading, and exchange the points for rewards. A good way to encourage reluctant readers.
2. BOOK ADVENTURE
Another "read for reward" site.
3. STARFALL
Grade Suitability: K,1,2 
Resource: A free public service to teach children to read with phonics. Their systematic phonics approach, in conjunction with phonemic awareness practice, is perfect for preschool, kindergarten, first grade, second grade, special education, homeschool, and English language development. Starfall is an educational alternative to other entertainment choices for children.

4. PHONICS 4 FREE
Grade Suitability: K,1,2,3,4 to adult, as required.
Resource: Video, worksheets and printable games in 16 lessons for learning to read.
5. READ THEORY
Grade Suitability: 1,2,3,4,5,6,7,8,9,10,11,12,AE
Resource: An online placement test will measure the reader's ability and then craft reading and comprehension passages especially for the student. Track progress and students can participate in optional writing competitions too.
6. READING PROGRAMS
Grade Suitability:  K,1,2
Resource: This web page, entitled Valuable Reading Programs from the Past, contains links to books that were historically used to teach children phonics and reading. It is not a curriculum site - but it's value in providing access to historical and traditional methods of teaching phonics and reading is recognised, hence it's presence here.
7. READING BEAR
Grade Suitability: 1,2,3 or anyone learning to read
Resource: 50 clear presentations cover all the main phonics rules.
